Windows98
About Hardware: CD-ROM, VGA, Printer... |
I am sure you've been asking yourself about setting up your
hardware
e.g Video Card, Printer, Scanner, Mouse, Modem and other
devices you might have. Common Devices hooked to any
computer are the Mouse, Video Card (to output an image
to the screen), a Keyboard, maybe a Printer.
In order to attach any device to your computer you need
something called a driver. A Driver enables Windows to
identify and communicate with the piece of hardware.
You can find the Driver on floppies/CD shipped with the
product.
Windows98 includes tons of drivers for many devices:
Video Cards, CD-Roms, Printers. In most cases you will
not need a driver for your Keyboard. I am sure Windows98
will recognize every single device attached to your
system, make sure you have the Driver disk for every
device just in case.
Never plug something to your computer while it's ON,
serious damages can happen. Always turn it off by removing any power supply.
Today
plugging a device into the computer is a piece of cake,
with PnP or Plug and Play support, Windows can
automatically detect the piece of Hardware, and you'll
see a message like Detecting Hardware.... Windows is
Searching...
A detailed Hardware installation guide will be soon
available on TECKIES.TUTOR
NOTE: When buying any
device, whether it's a Printer, Scanner, anything at all,
make sure you have the Driver disc.
When
Windows Starts for the First time, you will be prompted
for some input like setting the time zone... Enter a
username and Password (make sure you remember your
password) and follow the instructions.
