Windows98 Windows98
Install Windows98 from CD

The common way of installing Windows is using the CD.
If you just had your computer with an empty hard drive, it's important that you have system files - which allows you to start or boot your computer. To make sure just start your computer, if you get c:\>
You've done one step.

Now you need two things to access your CD-ROM for the installation:
The cd-rom driver. (the floppy that comes with your CD-Rom)
and a copy of a file called MSCDEX.exe Microsoft CD Extension that gives you access to your cd-rom drive.
You can find the file on the Windows98 Startup Disk.
Ask anyone with Windows 98 to lend you the disc.

Here's how you can create a Startup disc for your computer.
Go to Start - Settings - Control Panel and click on Add/remove programs choose the Startup Disk tab and click on Create Disk...
make sure you have an empty floppy.

When you've created the Start-up disc, go back to your system, insert the floppy and Restart press CTRL+ALT+Del on your Keyboard.
When the option list displays choose 1 for CD-ROM support, wait few minutes and there you are the cd-rom is now accessible.

The Startup floppy creates a temporary drive called RamDrive and stores some files there, if you only have one drive C: your cd-rom is E because D is reserved for the Ramdrive. The cd-rom is always the last drive, you will not miss it.

Now that you've went through all the difficulties here's the easy
part. Insert your Windows CD and type setup.
Windows will perform a routine check on your hard disk and scan it for errors, after that press <enter>.
Windows will now guide you through the installation, all you need to
do is to press few NEXTs...
Follow the instructions, you will be asked for some information
e.g your name, company name, serial number just fill in the blanks.
You can find the Serial# on the back of your Windows CD box.
Hopefully you will install Windows in about 40 min depending on your computer specifications. If you're upgrading this would take less.
