Installing/Upgrading
4/6 The common way of installing Windows is using the CD. If you just had your computer with an empty hard drive, it's important that you have system files . To make sure just start your computer, if you get c:\> You've done one step. Now you need two things to access your cd-rom to do the installation. The cd-rom driver. (the floppy that comes with your CD-Rom) and a copy of a file called MSCDEX.exe Microsoft CD Extension that gives you access to your cd-rom drive. You can find the file on the Windows 98 Startup Disk. Ask anyone with Windows 98 to lend you the disc. Here's how you can create a Startup disc for your computer. Go to Start - Settings - Control Panel and click on Add/remove programs choose the Startup Disk tab and click on Create Disk... make sure you have an empty floppy. |
