95/98 Tutorial
OBJECTIVE:
Learn
how to install or upgrade to Windows95/98, manage the operating
system, deal with folders and utilities. By the end of this
tutorial, you will master most of the Windows Resources.
Note: This tutorial is
targeted especially towards beginners, average user can also
profit from the advises.
Installing/Upgrading
2/6 When you install an application or upgrade, make sure you have enough room on your Hard Drive. The same applies for Windows. The space you'll need depends on the options you choose. The following are estimates if we consider the default installation. We'll not enter into details now, but just for completeness. You can install Windows on a FAT16 or FAT32 drive. What's FAT ??!! We'll return to that later on in the Tutorial. For the mean time, just know that FAT32 is faster than FAT16. Normally you're on FAT16 so you need 225MB of free space for a full default install, however if you include options you might need up to 355MB. if you just bought a new Hard Drive, don't worry about space. Note: Full install of Windows 98 on a FAT32 drive requires 175 MB, so FAT32 is less space consuming... |
